Barry King understands three things perhaps as well as anyone in the business: pressure, competition, and trading.

He grew up a competitive swimmer and in high school, in addition to winning several Texas state championships, (no small feat, if we may say so ourselves), set the state record in the 200 IM. He was an All American at Williams College for four years, but upon receiving his BA, decided to take his talents and appetite for success elsewhere—the trading floor.

After spending seven years on the sell-side covering hedge funds and institutions trading distressed debt, Asian-Euro converts, assorted other fixed income products and global equity event driven situations, Barry King thought he’d try the buy-side on for size. He spent the next five years as head-trader at a hedge fund, managing risk for an event driven fund and acting as overseer of trading on a separate long & short fund. The next three or so years Barry devoted himself as manager of a global event driven equities portfolio within a multi-strategy fund.

He wasn’t done yet. He’s since passed both levels one and two of the CFA and is currently awaiting results on the level three exam (as if there is any doubt!)

All of this is to say, quite simply, that Barry King has experience… in great abundance. Needless to say, we’re ecstatic to have Barry as a member of the ReThink Group team.
