Don Winton is an entrepreneur. He always has been and he always will be. When he graduated from Arizona State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and an offer to pitch for the Tucson Toros, he knew he was destined to be his own boss. and so, despite his love for baseball, he turned down the offer and turned toward his dream. And shortly thereafter, he reached it.
After returning to his home city of Chicago for most of the 80’s to be a trader on the floor, first at theChicago Board Options Exchange and Chicago Board of Trade and then finally moving to trade on the floor of the CME, Don decided he now had what he needed—the life experience, the capital, and the will—to start what he’d always known he’d finish: his own business.
He started and sold off a number of telecommunications companies and then in 1999 he started Global TelData, or GTI, as it was known among those in the know. For 21 years Don coddled his businesses, and in 2006, he decided it was the right time and sold his final stake in Global TelData.
Since then, Don has done consulting work, invested in real estate, and been on the lookout for the next opportunity for him to show his business savvy and take a company to the top. He found his next project, and his way back to athletics and trading, in The ReThink Group and its companies.
