Trading Psychology to Sports Psychology: Applying The Shull Method at Hendrick MotorsSports

ReThink is so pleased to announce our work with Andy Papa and the Pit Crews of Hendrick MotorSports. We are working with each cup team – Cars 9, 24, 48 and 88 and the various levels of development teams, two of which support cars 37 and 47.

We began with an intensive five-hour workshop taught by Denise and facilitated by our coaching team consisting of Bill Long, John Burns, and Imke Oster. We now are going into a two-year phase of group coaching around practicing a new set of skills to employ when traditional sports psychology strategies aren’t quite enough to disrupt the negative impacts of pressure.

The week after the workshop, the 9 car driven by Chase Elliott and the 88 car driven by Alex Bowman finished 1 and 2. While there are 1000 factors that go into placing like that, we believe ReThink’s work made a contribution and we look forward to playing out more consistent results over the long seasons of NASCAR.

As we write this, Alex Bowman and the 88 team have finished 2nd in three straight races while the 24 car, driven by William Byron has captured the pole position in the Coca-Cola 600 coming up this weekend. We’ve had the first of the series of group coaching sessions and the guys all have homework!
